Choose your Halloween Treats with Care

As Halloween approaches, we wanted to share some ideas on how to make this one a braces success story instead of a Halloween nightmare. Halloween can still be a lot of fun with some braces-friendly Halloween treats.

We suggest looking for candies (and foods in general) that are soft, not sticky, chewy, hard or crunchy. Some examples are M&Ms which can “melt in your mouth, not in their hands”. Just be sure to avoid the ones with the nuts in the center. Plain chocolate candy and peanut butter cups are good choices as well. Please just be sure that you remember to brush and floss afterwards.

Bobbing for apples and biting into caramel apples are not recommended for orthodontic patients (unless you like the idea of broken brackets, extra repair time at the office, and jaw joint pain!). However, patients can enjoy thinly sliced apples, dipped in yogurt or creamy chocolate sauce.

‘Wishing everyone a Spook-tacular holiday!
