When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. Your final orthodontic result depends on how well you wear your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far.
We recommend half-day plus night time wear for the first six months. Remember to remove your retainers before eating or drinking anything except water, and brush your retainers before placing them back in your mouth. After six months, most patients can move to night time-only wear. At that point, be sure that you are getting nine hours of wear. If you are not, please remember to put them on after dinner plus have them on while sleeping.

We use invisalign-type, clear removable retainers. The adobe flash below shows possible colors for a Hawley retainer. While we rarely make these anymore, there are occasional indications for their use.
